Interview with Tina Petway

On March 8th Jadyn and I went to one of the Houston Museum of Natural Science’s historical archive sites to interview Tina Petway. A native houstonian whose had a passion for shells since she was a child, Petway became the Associate Curator of Malacology in 2005, and has been working at the museum since the late nineties. However, Petway has been involved with the museum since she was a young child, joining the museums shell club along with her mother.

Jadyn and myself were able to obtain a lot of rich information about the history of the museum from her. We would love to conduct another interview with Petway sometime in the future, due to the fact that there still is so much more information she has to share. The interview with Tina Petway was a success, and the information we received is going to be very beneficial to this project. Thanks to Tina we will be able to further our research and knowledge of the HMNS.

Microfiche at The Fondren

In November we, Sage Griffee and Jadyn Cleary, went to the Fondren Library. The purpose of this trip was to find newspaper articles in the Houston Post about the opening of the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It was very overwhelming to see how many decades of newspapers there were. Luckily we had done some research and were able to find an exact date to look at. At first, it was difficult to use the microfiche, but we soon got the hang of it. Although we did not find an article relating to the museum it was still a great training opportunity and a fun experience.
